Hello, I’m Stephen Gould, a dedicated financial and technical writer with a passion for precision, clarity, and innovation. My journey began with the British government in the Marketing and Information division of the Department for National Savings (now NS&I), where I was attached to the press office. I wrote and collated stories for the monthly journal "Keypoints," which was circulated to 20,000 sub post offices across the UK.
My training was based on the guidelines in Ernest Gowers' book "The Complete Plain Words," and plain English has been a mainstay of my writing ever since. Over the years, I’ve honed my craft to transform complex information into clear, engaging content.
A Background Built on Detail and Innovation
Following a promotion, I moved into the technical department and became a programmer, focusing on migrating large mainframe applications to desktop computers. Many of these projects were financial in nature, such as the 'Bank of England Daybook'. This role demanded not only programming accuracy but also extensive documentation, through which I gained invaluable experience. I came to learn that every detail matters.
With the rise of the Internet, I transitioned to the private sector and founded a company that developed data-driven web applications for numerous London-based businesses, many in the financial sector. As the technical director of a growing web company, I engaged in both domestic writing and contributed to trade publications such as Computer Weekly and various Internet-specific outlets.
I pride myself on delivering work that not only informs but also inspires confidence. My approach is rooted in a commitment to quality—balancing rigorous accuracy with creative insight to ensure every piece of content meets the highest standards.
Bridging the Gap Between Technology and Communication
In today’s digital age, effective communication is inseparable from advanced technology. The digital landscape is evolving rapidly, with many of the intricate details of coding increasingly handled by artificial intelligence. Yet while machine learning can generate impressive first drafts, the nuanced art of communication remains firmly in the human domain. In fact, NVIDIA CEO Jason Huang recently noted that although he uses AI to produce initial drafts, he personally refines them—ensuring that the final output carries the subtlety and clarity only human insight can provide.
By leveraging modern digital tools, I streamline the process of capturing and conveying information. This integration enables me to develop a rapid content creation method that renders even the most complex subjects accessible and engaging, blending technological efficiency with a distinctly human touch.
Looking Forward
I’m constantly evolving, always seeking new ways to refine my skills and embrace the latest innovations. This website is a reflection of my journey—showcasing scanned documents, completed projects, and insights on the latest trends in financial and technical writing. I invite you to explore my portfolio and blog, and I look forward to the opportunity to collaborate and create content that makes a difference.
